Created in 2003, the Jay O’Connor Scholarship for Youth Soccer Endowment Fund (Jay’s Fund) will provide scholarships to boys and girls to attend summer soccer day camps offered in the Reston area, overnight camps sponsored by Curt Onalfo Soccer, and overnight “team” camps. These are camps where a boy or girl’s soccer team is planning to attend as a team. |
| How does a player apply for a scholarship? |
There is no formal application process. Coaches, team managers and teachers may recommend players. |
| How does a person recommend a player? |
By filling out a brief recommendation form. |
| What level of financial assistance is available? |
Jay’s fund can provide up to the full tuition amount for the camp. |
| Are the scholarships granted via a competitive process? |
There is no competitive process, but preference will be given to those boys and girls who personify the character of Jay O’Connor. Jay had a love of soccer.
Jay had keen sense of humor. Jay was a friend to everyone. Jay always had a smile on his face.
Jay never hesitated to tell family and friends “I love you.” |
| How will funds be disbursed? |
Scholarship money will be disbursed by the Northern
Virginia Community Foundation on behalf of Jay’s Fund. Disbursement
must be made to a qualifying nonprofit entity, who in turn will submit
the tuition payment to the applicable soccer camp. |
